I would particularly like to thank GAAPS for their very generous sponsorship of this occasion, which seems to be unique in South Africa. We feel honoured that our students are afforded the opportunity to approach prospective employers and to see the variety of opportunities open to them.
We are extremely grateful to Geraldine Kaye and Lance Randles from GAAPS for their initial endeavours to make this all possible. We would also like to welcome Sima Varsani from GAAPS to our campus this year. Without their initiative and finances, this occasion would not have been possible. Lance’s assistance in designing the programme is also much appreciated.
To every representative from industry, thank you for your time. We appreciate the investment you make in our graduates by attending this event. We are sure that your efforts will pay dividends in future.
The University of Pretoria is celebrating its centenary this year and the Department of Insurance and Actuarial Science is 20 years old. We are extremely proud of our alumni who have made their mark not just locally, but also internationally. We are still driven to train and educate our students to be in demand and to be preferential candidates at any job interview.
In total we have so far produced 113 qualified actuaries and many more are on the brink of qualifying. We trust that this will serve as inspiration to our current students. You are in the numbers game and the goal is to get the total as high as possible. There is no limit, so go for it!
I would also like to thank the staff from the Department of Insurance and Actuarial Science for all their efforts in making this day possible. The committee from House Aktua did the marketing and for that we are also extremely grateful.
Well done, everyone.
